Drone Association President Supports Southern Flood Rescue, Deploying Cargo Drones for Hard-to-Reach Areas

Drone Association President Joins Forces with “Noom Kanchai” to Mobilize Heavy Drones Delivering Medical Supplies and Food to Flood Victims in Southern Thailand

Following severe flooding in southern Thailand—particularly in Hat Yai district and nearby provinces—many residents have been stranded in areas inaccessible by boats or jet skis due to strong water currents. Recently, the Drone Association of Thailand received an urgent coordination request from the television program Hone Krasae to mobilize resources for rescue operations.

Urgent Mission: Rescue Drones Braving Strong Currents

On the program “Hone Krasae,” hosted by Noom Kanchai Kamnerdploy, a live phone-in was conducted with Ajarn Ken, President of the Drone Association of Thailand, requesting cooperation in deploying drones to deliver medicine and food to critically affected areas.

Due to current conditions, high water levels and strong currents have made it difficult for water rescue teams to access affected areas. The use of “cargo drones” or large agricultural drones has therefore become a crucial solution for accurately and safely delivering relief packages and medical supplies to target locations.

Association Ready to Mobilize, but Legal Compliance Remains Crucial

The association’s president immediately accepted the request for assistance, stating that the organization is currently in the planning stage and mobilizing members who operate “heavy-lift drones” capable of carrying supplies, in preparation for deployment to the affected areas.

“In terms of volunteer support, we have many members who are fully ready. However, the key issue is the ‘No Fly Zone,’ as many areas in southern Thailand fall under this restriction. Without orders or authorization from competent authorities or local administrations, operating drones could result in legal consequences and conflicts with other agencies.”

Urgent Coordination with DDPM to Open Special Airspace

To address these limitations, Noom Kanchai pledged to immediately coordinate with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and other relevant government agencies to seek special authorization for drone flights for this rescue mission, allowing volunteer drone pilots to carry out their duties with confidence and in full compliance with the law.

Next Steps in Preparation

At present, the association is preparing its personnel and equipment while awaiting official authorization from government authorities, in order to deploy teams to the target areas as quickly as possible.

📢 Announcement to Association Members and Drone Volunteers

Members and volunteers are advised to stand by and await official announcements from the association regarding meeting points and task assignments. Once special flight authorization is approved, operations will commence immediately.
