CAAT Announcement: Extension of Drone Control/Regulation Period.

The extension of the "drone flight ban" in border areas and security zones until September 30, 2025.

To maintain national security and public order, pursuant to Notification No. 6

Check Drone Flight Control Areas

This notification designates strict No-Fly Zones categorized into three main groups. Users can click below to view details for each category.

5 Border Provinces

  • Sa Kaeo
  • Buriram
  • Si Sa Ket
  • Surin
  • Ubon Ratchathani

Flight Conditions in Authorized Areas

For drone operations outside designated No-Fly Zones, users must still strictly adhere to the established regulations and conditions to ensure safety and legal compliance.

Users must first properly register their drones with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

Submit a request via the system at least 3 working days in advance. UAS Portal

Notify flight information to the Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center.

Flight Time Limits

Flights are permitted between 06:00 – 18:00 hrs. Flying is strictly prohibited from 00:01 – 04:00 hrs.

Exemptions for Government Agencies

Drones utilized for government missions—such as those by the Military, Police, Customs, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the National Intelligence Agency—are exempt. However, for operations within No-Fly Zones, prior notification must be submitted via the UAS Portal, and the security agencies responsible for the area must be informed.

Reference: The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) Announcement No. 6

CAAT extends the drone flight ban in border areas and security zones until September 30, 2025.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) or CAAT issued Announcement No. 6 on "Prohibiting the operation or release of unmanned aircraft (Drone) in areas that may affect national security during the Thailand–Cambodia border situation."

It cancels Announcement No. 5, which ended on September 15, 2025, and extends the control measure until September 30, 2025, or until there is a change announcement. This is in accordance with coordination with security agencies which still see the necessity of maintaining national security and order.

The No-Fly Zones designated under Notification No. 6 include:

  1. Provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border
    Sakaeo, Buriram, Sisaket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani
  2. Special Control Area
    Sattahip District (Chonburi), Mueang Rayong District (Rayong), Phayuha Khiri District (Nakhon Sawan), Mueang Ratchaburi District (Ratchaburi)
  3. Area within a 9-kilometer radius of the airport
  4. Other Areas Specifically Designated by Security Agencies

Conditions for Flying/Operation in Authorized/Permitted Areas

  1. Operators must properly register the drone with the CAAT.

  2. ต้อง ยื่นคำขออนุญาตล่วงหน้าอย่างน้อย 3 วัน via the system UAS Portal (uasportal.caat.or.th) และแจ้งไปยัง Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center (C-UAS Center)

  3. Flight time restrictions: 06.00 – 18.00 hrs. If flying is required outside this period, a special permit application must be submitted, but flying is prohibited between 00.01 – 04.00 hrs. in all cases.

  4. If the flight operation deviates from the conditions, an additional application must be submitted to the CAAT.

Exemptions

  • Drones belonging to government agencies such as the Military, Police, Customs, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Natural Resources, and the National Intelligence Agency can be used in accordance with their authority/mandate.

  • If the flight is conducted within a prohibited area, the information must be notified in advance to the UAS Portal, the Anti-Drone Operations Center (ศบตอ.น.), and the responsible security agency.

Summary

This measure is implemented according to the proposal of security agencies to ensure maximum national security stringency. Simultaneously, CAAT has developed the UAS Portal system to be more convenient and faster, in order to support the legal, safe, and sustainable use of drones.
