In Buriram province, a suspicious drone has been spotted flying several times near the Cambodian border, drawing attention from both government authorities and the local community. Recently, Thailand's drone expert, "Janyawut Chatianulak," President of the Drone Association of Thailand, gave an interview and in-depth analysis on the characteristics and threats of drones in this area.
The expert explained that drones commonly found in border areas are “general civilian drones” with advanced capabilities, including “flight altitudes of 300–500 meters” and “operational ranges of up to around 10 kilometers.” Although primarily used for photography and reconnaissance, these drones can collect geolocation data in real time. In cases of escalating conflict or unrest, such data can be used to identify targets for attacks—posing a serious threat that warrants close monitoring.
In terms of defense and response, experts emphasize the importance of Thailand’s “drone interception technology,” which has begun to be deployed in critical areas. One key system involves a signal jammer that disrupts the connection between the drone and its operator, causing the drone to lose control or return to its point of origin. This is used in combination with a special detection system that analyzes drone types, tracks flight paths, and issues alerts when suspicious drones enter the area. The integration of these two technologies enables Thailand to effectively intercept hostile or spy drones—even amid uncertain conditions.
The expert further suggested that the government should establish an alert system and create a platform for citizens to report suspicious drone activity. This could include uploading video clips, specifying the time, location, and estimated altitude when encountering unclear incidents. Collecting such detailed data would allow authorities to analyze drone behavior, plan accurate countermeasures, and prepare timely evacuation protocols in case of escalating threats.
Finally, Thailand’s drone expert emphasized that developing drone interception equipment and military-grade drone functions is a critical mission—not only to counter reconnaissance and surveillance but also to prepare for scenarios where drones may be equipped with weapons or warheads. This development is essential to ensure Thailand is ready to respond to aerial and technological threats along the border under all circumstances.
This video presents the latest footage of suspicious drone activity in Buriram Province, featuring perspectives from authorities, experts, and the collaborative efforts of local communities in observing and reporting the real situation.
