CAAT Notification: Extension of Drone Flight Controls in Border and National Security Areas

Drone Flight Ban Extended in Border and National Security Areas until October 31, 2025

To maintain national security and public order, pursuant to Notification No. 8

Check Drone Flight Control Areas

This notification designates strict No-Fly Zones categorized into three main groups. Users can click below to view details for each category.

5 Border Provinces

  • Sa Kaeo
  • Buriram
  • Si Sa Ket
  • Surin
  • Ubon Ratchathani

Flight Conditions in Authorized Areas

For drone operations outside designated No-Fly Zones, users must still strictly adhere to the established regulations and conditions to ensure safety and legal compliance.

Users must first properly register their drones with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

Flight Time Limits

Flights are permitted between 06:00 – 18:00 hrs. Flying is strictly prohibited from 00:01 – 04:00 hrs.

Exemptions for Government Agencies

Drones utilized for government missions—such as those by the Military, Police, Customs, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the National Intelligence Agency—are exempt. However, for operations within No-Fly Zones, prior notification must be submitted via the UAS Portal, and the security agencies responsible for the area must be informed.

Drone Flight Ban Extended in Border and National Security Areas until October 31, 2025

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued Notification No. 8 regarding the "Prohibition of Unmanned Aircraft (Drone) Operations in Areas Potentially Affecting National Security During the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation."

by revoking Notification Issue No. 7, which expired on October 15, 2025, and extending the control measures until Until October 31, 2025 or until further notice. This decision follows coordination with security agencies, who deem it necessary to maintain national security and public order.

The No-Fly Zones designated under Notification No. 8 include:

  1. Provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border

    • Sa Kaeo

    • Buriram

    • Si Sa Ket

    • Surin

    • Ubon Ratchathani

  2. Special Control Areas (Flight Ban Revoked in Select Areas):

    • Sattahip District (Chonburi Province)

    • Mueang Rayong District (Rayong Province)

    • Phayuha Khiri District (Nakhon Sawan Province)

    • Mueang Ratchaburi District (Ratchaburi Province)

  3. Area within a 9-kilometer radius of the airport

    • Airports Designated in Notification Issue No. 8 (e.g., Chiang Mai Airport, Phitsanulok Airport, Udon Thani Airport, etc.)

  4. Other Areas Specifically Designated by Security Agencies

    • Following coordination with security agencies in strategically important or security-sensitive areas

Flight Conditions in Authorized Areas under Notification Issue No. 8:

  • Drone Registration sers must register their drone with (CAAT) properly and fully

  • Prior Permission Application: The application must be submitted via the system at least 3 days in advance. UAS Portal (uasportal.caat.or.th), and notify information to Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center (C-UAS Center)

  • Flight Time: Flying is permitted between 06.00 – 18.00 น.

    • If operations are required outside this time period, an application for special permission must be submitted.

  • Flight Prohibition: Flying is prohibited between 00:01 and 04:00 hrs. in all cases

  • Flight Operations Deviating from Specified Conditions: An additional application for permission must be submitted to (CAAT) Through UAS Portal

Exemptions for Notification Issue No. 8:

  • Government Agencies:

    • Drones utilized for government agency missions, such as: Military, Police, Customs, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and National Intelligence Agency shall be exempted from the flight prohibition in the designated No-Fly Zones.

    • Exemption Conditions:

      • If the flight occurs within the No-Fly Zones, (Border areas or National Security Areas) Government agencies must provide prior flight notification via the system UAS Portal and notify the security agencies responsible for the area (e.g., C-UAS Center)

  • Flight Operations in Authorized Areas (Outside No-Fly Zones):

    • If operating in authorized areas, users must comply with specified conditions, such as: Drone Registration, Submit Request in Advance, Notify Relevant Agencies, Comply with Flight Times and established prohibitions (e.g., Flying is prohibited between 00:01–04:00 hrs.).
